Why SEL Matters

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is a proven foundation for student success. When students learn to recognize their emotions, manage stress, and connect with others, they are more prepared to learn and grow in all areas.

What the Research Says

SEL is backed by hundreds of studies across multiple fields and sources and has been shown to positively affect academic outcomes, student behavior, school safety, and long-term well-being. Key findings show:

  • ✅ Improved academic performance

  • ✅ Better behavior and focus

  • ✅ Positive school climate

  • ✅ Lifelong social-emotional skills

“Supportive relationships and consistent SEL instruction across contexts lead to stronger academic and personal development.”

The Impact of SEL at a Glance

  • Students in SEL programs see an average 11 percentile point increase in academic achievement.
